As a lifelong fan of the classic Universal Studios monster movies, I have concerns about the planned shared monster universe Universal is working on. I get even more concerned when another studio announces a ‘retelling’ of these classic stories. But, after seeing this trailer, I’m intrigued with the possibility. I like the tone, and the cast is full of talented actors – I am some reason for optimism.
Indeed, while it’s based on Mary Shelley’s classic novel from the 1800s, Director Guy Ritchie‘s Frankenstein is part horror and part action-adventure, with a touch of buddy comedy thrown in for good measure. (Not unlike the filmmaker’s take on Sherlock Holmes in 2009.)
James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in a dynamic and thrilling twist on a legendary tale. Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.
In Theaters – November 25, 2015
